The Unwrinkled Ear has two announcements.

The first, easiest:

Tonite from 21:00-22:30 California Time, Thursday on www.killradio.org

we will do a special on Paal Nilssen-Love's new label, PNL records.

They've released a duo by Paal with Lasse Marhaug and another of Paal with organist Nils Henrik Asheim.

And we'll also do a big feature on composer, violist and bassist Szilárd MEZEI.

We'll taste solo, duo, trio, quintet stuff all the way up to ten piece ensemble work from this incredible Hungarian/ Serbian/ Yugoslavian musician.

The second announcement, much harder:

the Jazzgalerie in Nickesldorf, Austria is under attack by the Austrian government.

More details in the two attachements.

The Unwrinkeld Ear would not exist were it not for the incredible work of this concert venue over the last 30 years. As I understand it, the government is accusing Hans of running his establishment - which has championed improvised music and musicians from all over the world - solely for his own personal enrichment, thus charging him for years of back taxes. Obviously, if his venue can deeply affect the life of a boy from South Carolina, his work in the Austrian countryside is not just about himself.

Celebrate 20 Years of Theme Party Tonight!

Hi guys!

Yes, it was 20 years ago today, in 1986, that Theme Party first went out over the Internet and history was made. Sure, we've changed so much since then, and yes, we admit that A) there was no Internet in 1986, and B) the eldest member of the Theme Party crew was only 12, but those are mere technicalities. Thanks to the work of the fine people at CERN and their magnificent Large Hadron Collider, we're fairly certain there are at least 14 parallel dimensions in which, we believe, the Internet was invented sometime during the 1780s and Theme Party is as venerable an institution as the song Notorious which, by sheer coincidence, is also celebrating its 20th anniversary tonight.

So what the hell will we be doing to "celebrate" our own dubious milestone? Simple - we'll be playing plenty of music from the year we are now claiming to have first webcast, as well as some more recent material from the more factual, "reality-based" period of Theme Party's existence. We'll also probably play Notorious, and a bunch of songs about Anniversaries, just because we're feeling cheeky.

the panel included FCC commissioners Copps and Adelstein, congresswoman Solis, reps from media conglomerates such as disney and abc, reps from a variety of other media organizations, and others.

the 'public' in attendance included folk from local indie radio stations kpfk, kxlu, hollywood movie- and tv-producers, media watchdog groups, women's groups, latino groups, and others.

However, adult Americans must be assured access to adult-oriented programming if they want it. And I don't mean pornography: censorship on the basis of sexual content has been used in past to suppress political, artistic, and educational content:

Tonight, From 9 to 11 PM PST, we're treating you to another Theme Party Mix Tape. Kiss My Fist is off at another orchestra concert and Kyle MC DC is planning his birthday, but the Eligible Ross Lincoln, with assist from his other friends, will be here to talk and hang out, and play 2 hours worth of music that is very wonderful.

To give you something to look forward to, The ERL has been obsessed with minced oaths. Expressions like "By Jingo!", "Great Jove's Mountain" and other fun ways to avoid upsetting the gentry's views on swearing. So expect many such phrases, in addition to music and other fun such things.

The South Central Farmers dispel the myth that the poor are poor because they are lazy. Many of the South Central Farmers work more than one job, and then farm the land at 41st and Long Beach Avenue. They grow staples such as corn, tomatoes, cactus, and other foods such as papalotl, pipicha, chipillin, alachi, quelite, and quintonil from Meso-America unavailable elsewhere in Los Angeles. The South Central Farmers provide fresh foods and a healthy alternative to the working poor. They have found a creative way to feed families without welfare.

"On Sunday, I went to the farm. People welcomed me into their gardens, as they would family. One man had a family with three daughters, his oldest was autistic, but she had the sweetest and most infectious smile.

Jesus' hands were hard, leathery, callused, and at the same time quiet, sensitive and somewhat delicate. He invited me to sit with him and his family. His wife sat nearby and prepared some cactus for me. The taste was somewhat bitter, but it's texture was not unlike celery. I liked it.

Jesus led me around his family's garden. He showed me the herbs and flowers they grew and what they were used for. His English was just about as limited as my Spanish-- still, we talked animatedly and comfortably.

His wife teased me about being single. She picked a gladiola and handed it to me saying she thought it would be nice for my esposa. When I replied that I wasn't married, she said, "Oh.. your boyfriend, then?"

"No, no, no quiero no boyfriend." I replied.

I felt as if I was home. I was only there for a matter of hours.

Imagine how the South Central Farmers feel, many of whom tending their gardens, making food and medicine for five, ten years and more, only to have it ripped from them by court orders and sheriff's deputies. It's wrenching, the way it sounds when a tree's roots are pulled from earth."
