celebrate Sainkho
vocalist Sainkho Namchylak turned 50 this month and we're gonna celebrate her sounds tonite
we'll go back to her classic solo on FMP, where I first discovered her remarkable talent for blending ancient Tuvan throat singing with contemporary vocal improvisation
and dip into her two recent Leo releases
one of which is a Tuvan-Irish collaboration w/ Roy Carroll on electronics
and the other of which compiles examples of her genre nomadicity: from folk singing to free improv
And if this weren't enough, we're also going to rattle some tracks off of Elisabeth Flunger's gorgeous disc "Songs" - 24 solos for metal trash instruments.
All this on www.killradio.org from 21:00-22:30 PST Thursday
It's a radio show called The Unwrinkled Ear
don't slip on the lobster!
